The Story Behind The Love Mia Cookie
The Love Mia Cookie is not just a beautiful cookie. It is a story, a remembrance, and a small act of love.
In January of 2025, our community of Washougal, WA was shaken by a tragedy that forever changed one family, one school and deeply touched many others. Washougal is where we live and where our small business, Cookies & Cream, calls home. It is a close-knit town where people show up for one another, especially in times of heartbreak.
As parents of a daughter close to her age, the loss of Mia struck us deeply. She was a young woman standing at the edge of her future, and in an instant, that future was taken from her.
In the days and weeks that followed, her presence was felt everywhere. Pink ribbons appeared throughout town—haunting and beautiful all at once. There were pink-themed basketball games at Washougal High School where she graduated from in 2024, a Love Mia pink drink at Dutch Bros, and most recently the The Love Mia Gala held at the Black Pearl. Even if you did not know Mia personally, it was impossible not to feel the weight of her absence and the love surrounding her memory. As Washougal residents and business owners, we also felt a quiet pull to do something—something small but meaningful—to honor Mia and the mission of the Love Mia Foundation. Baking has always been our way of showing love. It brings us joy, and it connects us to our community in the simplest, most human way. So we went back to what we know best and began to create The Love Mia Cookie.
We wanted to make sure that the cookie was unlike any other cookie we’ve previously designed and of course...it needed to be pink. The flavor had to be unique and fresh and the look needed to be fun and youthful. After collaborating with Mia’s family, we came up with the Love Mia Strawberries and Cream Sandwich Cookie. The cookie is unique and beautiful, just like Mia, with a strong flavor. The face of the cookie has an offset cutout heart in the strawberry flavored gluten free shortbread cookie. The filling is an all natural strawberry cream with the outer rim dusted with pink sanding sugar. The cookie weighs over 6 ounces- it's a big cookie!
The cookie will debut at our first event of the season on March 14th and will be available at the bazaars and markets we have lined up through the summer. See our home page for event dates, locations, and links for more information.
After covering the cost of ingredients, all proceeds from The Love Mia Cookie will be donated to The Love Mia Foundation in honor of Mia. This cookie is our way of standing alongside a family and a community who continue to turn grief into purpose.
Baking is our love language. This cookie is our hug to Mia.
